Mia McGregor | Mio Girls Basketball
Freshman Mia McGregor of Mio High School is averaging 42 points per game. That’s right; the Mio Thunderbolts, a team of just seven hoopers, are on an eight-game win streak, thanks to their leading freshman phenom.
Facing double-teams and even triple-teams, McGregor proves unstoppable, putting up incredible numbers. In her first varsity game, she finished with 47 points, and from then on, scored 46, 52, and 47 points in ensuing games.
The young and growing team is made up of only one senior, two juniors, and four freshmen. Just last season, the team consisted of only 5 players, and the season before that, there wasn’t a team at all. In their 2022-23 campaign, they secured only 5 wins throughout, but this year, they are breaking program records, remaining undefeated so far, and putting the girls’ basketball team of the small town of Mio, Michigan, on the map.
Head Coach Kristi McGregor, who is also Mia’s mother, is in her second season coaching the Thunderbolts.
In their matchup against Milford at the Michigan Hardwood Classic at Romulus, McGregor hit the go-ahead buzzer-beater three-pointer to secure the win. The Thunderbolts also took down Ann Arbor Huron, marking the first two victories over Division 1 schools in program history.
Next up, McGregor and the Thunderbolts will take on Alcona High School at Lincoln Alcona High School.
