Perfect Ending for Grand Rapids Catholic Central Girls Lacrosse

The Grand Rapids Catholic Central girls lacrosse team completed a perfect season holding off defending Division 2 state champs, Detroit Country Day in the State Championship at the University of Michigan Lacrosse Stadium.

Super-star senior Claire Marosi, who has had an incredible season and career as a cougar, was confident her team would get the job done. “Just to finish with momentum on our side was really helpful. I think we all knew when it comes down to it, we would pull it off,” Marosi said.

The Cougars were able to secure the nail-biting 10-9 win with clutch goals from Cate Marshall, Mairin Ziegler and back-to-back fourth quarter goals from Marosi.

Head coach Joe Curcuru said, “I told her (Marosi) after the game, there is nobody else in the state of Michigan I want with that ball than her,” Curcuru said. “It felt long, but it also felt good because I knew 22 had it for us.”

Marosi finished this season with the third-most goals all-time in a single season with 154. She will be continuing her athletic and academic career at Northwestern University.
