Michigan State Gymnast Nikki Smith Scored First Perfect 10 in Program History On Floor

History was made inside the Jenison Field house on Michigan State’s Campus Sunday afternoon as sophomore gymnast, Nikki Smith, scored the first perfect 10 on floor, marking the first in program history. This, along with contributions from several returning MSU gymnasts, led the team to a 197.400-195.600 victory over No. 20 ranked Iowa.

This wasn’t Smith’s first time performing perfectly; it marked her second perfect 10 in her Spartan career. With the historic win, MSU remains undefeated in the conference achieving its highest home opener score in program history.

Along with Smith’s remarkable performance, junior Skyla Schulte secured her second-straight all-around title and her second-straight title on the beam. Schulte now holds a team-high seven event titles through the first four meets this season.

This victory coincided with MSU’s 50th anniversary of Spartan Gymnastics and marked the team’s first win over Iowa since 2015.

Next up, Michigan State will travel to Ann Arbor to face rival Michigan on Sunday, February 4th. To catch the coverage of that event, check out the Big Ten Network.
